SAIC Motor reports record sales in November, achieves new highs in NEV market

SAIC Motor has reported a significant surge in its November sales, achieving remarkable milestones in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market. According to the latest production and sales report released by the company, the total wholesale sales of vehicles in November reached 479,000 units, marking a month-on-month increase of 19.1 percent. This growth represents the fifth consecutive month of positive sales performance.

Among these impressive figures, the sales of NEVs stood out, with 175,000 units sold in November, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 16.1 percent and setting a new record for the year. For the period from January to November, SAIC Motor's NEV wholesale volume totaled 1.08 million units, up 19.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

SAIC Motor's performance was bolstered by the strong sales of its various brands and models. Notably, the premium electric vehicle brand IM Motors continued its success, with monthly sales surpassing 10,000 units and achieving both month-on-month and year-on-year growth. The launch of new models, such as the ultra-long-range hybrid MPV Roewe iMAX8 DMH, the Guinness World Record-setting Roewe D7 DMH World Champion Edition, and the MG ES5 SUV equipped with an industry-first anti-motion sickness system, contributed to the robust sales figures.

SAIC Volkswagen, a joint venture between SAIC Motor and Volkswagen Group, also reported impressive results. Its NEV wholesale sales reached 16,000 units in November and its ID. family, particularly the ID.3, remained a strong performer, with cumulative sales exceeding 200,000 units, solidifying its position as the top-selling joint venture in the electric vehicle market.

SAIC Motor announced on Nov 26 that it had signed an agreement with Volkswagen Group to extend their joint venture, SAIC Volkswagen, by 10 years until 2040. Faced with the trend of NEV and intelligent transformation and upgrading in the automotive industry, both shareholders will integrate their respective advantageous resources, jointly empower technology, and support SAIC Volkswagen in developing multiple new models including pure electric and plug-in hybrid to satisfy the Chinese consumer needs. By 2030, SAIC Volkswagen will launch 18 new models, of which 15 will be specifically developed for the Chinese market.

In the overseas market, SAIC Motor continued to excel, with wholesale sales surpassing 940,000 units from January to November. The new MG HS achieved top safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP, and became one of the best-selling models in the United Kingdom. The new MG3 HEV outperformed its competitors to win the 2024 Thailand Car of the Year award, and the new MG3 family maintained strong global sales, with monthly figures consistently exceeding 10,000 units. In Europe, the MG brand achieved cumulative sales of over 220,000 units, demonstrating resilience despite the challenges posed by the European Union's anti-subsidy investigation, maintaining year-on-year growth, and is expected to set a new record for the full year.

SAIC Motor also made significant advancements in intelligent driving technology. On Nov 14, ahead of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, SAIC Motor's fleet of 40 L4-level autonomous trucks began commercial operations at Peru's Chancay Port, marking a breakthrough in high-level intelligent driving applications overseas. Additionally, SAIC Motor was the only company to have both PV and CV in the first batch of L3-level intelligent connected vehicle pilot programs announced by the Chinese government. The company's IM Motors brand introduced an "end-to-end intuitive intelligent driving model", becoming the first in the industry to offer mass production capabilities for L2, L3, and L4-level autonomous driving technologies. SAIC Motor's L4-level Robotaxi, developed by SAIC Motor Z-ONE, currently operates in Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shenzhen, accumulating a total mileage of 4 million kilometers.

SAIC Motor is also actively promoting the large-scale application of Beidou in-vehicle intelligent terminals, integrating the Beidou navigation system with vehicle networking technology to provide high-precision positioning, navigation, and intelligent driving assistance functions. By the end of 2026, SAIC Motor plans to release a mass-production-oriented L3-level autonomous driving solution, aiming to be the first to offer consumers an industry-leading autonomous driving experience.

With these achievements and strategic initiatives, SAIC Motor is poised to continue its leadership in the automotive industry, delivering innovative products and services to consumers both in China and around the world.
